LEGO NINJAGO 71867 Was Built for Nostalgia — Dragons Rising Season 4 Makes It Feel Current
LEGO NINJAGO is marking its 15th anniversary in 2026 with several sets that revisit earlier eras of the theme. Among them is 71867 X-1 Ninja Charger 15th Anniversary, a modern reworking of 70727 X-1 Ninja Charger from 2014.
On paper, the set is a straightforward anniversary release aimed at fans of the Rebooted era. After the latest episodes of NINJAGO: Dragons Rising Season 4, though, the model has picked up an extra layer of relevance. Spoilers for the second half of Season 4 follow.
A remake first, a current-series connection second
LEGO officially positions 71867 as an anniversary remake rather than a standard Dragons Rising set. The 691-piece build keeps the X-1’s defining two-in-one feature, with a hidden motorcycle that can be deployed from the main vehicle.
The minifigure selection reinforces the historical angle: Kai, General Cryptor and the anniversary-exclusive Master of Shadow. That lineup initially reads as a deliberate celebration of older NINJAGO stories.
Season 4 changes how the set reads
The latest Dragons Rising episodes make that older material feel unexpectedly current. Elements tied closely to the Rebooted era, including General Cryptor and the X-1 vehicle itself, return to the modern storyline, while coverage of the new episodes also points to Wyldfyre using the updated vehicle.
That does not mean LEGO has reclassified 71867 as a Dragons Rising product. Officially, it remains part of the 15th-anniversary range. But for viewers following Season 4, the set now works as more than a retro display piece: it also connects directly with events in the present-day NINJAGO narrative.
General Cryptor is the clearest bridge
General Cryptor is where the crossover between eras becomes most obvious. His inclusion in 71867 originally made perfect sense because of the set’s Rebooted inspiration. With the character returning to the modern story, that same minifigure now carries contemporary relevance as well.
It is an unusual situation for an anniversary remake. Rather than simply recreating an old vehicle for long-time fans, 71867 has ended up sitting comfortably between two generations of NINJAGO storytelling.
What is in LEGO NINJAGO 71867?
71867 X-1 Ninja Charger 15th Anniversary contains 691 pieces and is rated for ages 14+. The model includes three minifigures and retains the hidden motorcycle function that defined the original vehicle.
The key point is not the specification sheet, though. Season 4 of Dragons Rising has changed the context around the set. It is still officially an anniversary remake, but it now feels far more connected to current NINJAGO than many fans may have expected when it was first revealed.
