30762 Retro Video Game Batman has picked up an extra promotional route at Gamescom 2026. Visitors who play the Mayhem Mode demo at the LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight booth can receive the small promotional pack, giving collectors an early opportunity to get the figure.
The minifigure itself was already known before Gamescom, so the fresh development is the event giveaway and the first detailed in-hand look. Its real appeal comes from the design reference rather than the distribution method.
Why is Batman purple?
The most immediately unusual feature is the color scheme: a purple cowl and cape, a blue head and deliberately pixel-styled printing.
This is a reference to Batman: The Video Game by Sunsoft for Famicom/NES, a game tied to Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman film but visually adapted to 8-bit hardware.
Instead of reproducing the movie’s black costume literally, the game used a stylized purple-and-blue palette that stood out more clearly on the hardware of the time. 30762 brings that interpretation into minifigure form.
Pixel-style printing reinforces the reference
The torso graphics are intentionally blocky and game-like, with printing on both the front and back. The blue double-sided head pushes the design even further away from a normal modern Batman minifigure.
That combination makes the figure feel more like a physical version of an 8-bit sprite than a conventional DC costume variant.
A five-piece paper bag centered on one minifigure
Brickset catalogs 30762 as a five-piece paper bag. There is no substantial build here — the focus is the character itself and the small number of components needed to complete the figure.
That makes sense for a promotional item whose collectible value comes from a specific visual reference rather than from a miniature model.
The NES/Famicom connection goes back to 1989
Sunsoft’s Batman: The Video Game was linked to the 1989 film, but its visual identity became distinctive in its own right. The Japanese Famicom version launched in December 1989, while Western NES releases followed in 1990.
The purple-and-blue Batman from that game is the direct visual source for 30762, turning what might look like an odd color choice into a very specific retro-gaming reference.
How can you get 30762 outside Gamescom?
The officially announced retail-linked availability remains the physical Deluxe Edition of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight for Nintendo Switch 2, launching on September 18, 2026.
The Retro Video Game Batman minifigure is included with that physical edition while supplies last.
Gamescom is therefore an additional event-based route, not evidence that the pack is moving into broad standalone retail distribution.
What is still unknown?
There is no confirmed standalone retail release for 30762 and no announcement of wider distribution beyond the Gamescom giveaway and the physical Switch 2 Deluxe Edition.
That means collectors should not assume the pack will later appear as a normal store polybag unless LEGO or Warner Bros. Games confirms it.
A minifigure built around gaming history
30762 works because the design rewards people who know where it came from. The purple cowl, blue head and pixelated prints are not random styling choices — together they reconstruct a very specific version of Batman from the late-1980s and early-1990s console era.
That gives the minifigure a wider appeal than a standard promotional Batman variant, especially for collectors interested in the overlap between LEGO, DC and retro gaming.
