LEGO Pokémon Teases Five New SMART Play Models for 2027

LEGO Pokémon has started teasing its next SMART Play wave for 2027. During a PokémonXP panel, five silhouettes appeared on screen as a preview of future models. Their shapes strongly suggest Grookey, Pichu, Charcadet, Mankey and Wingull.

This is still a teaser rather than a full set reveal. LEGO has not yet published set numbers, prices, piece counts, exact release dates or the final breakdown between All-in-One and Compatible models.

Five silhouettes point to familiar Pokémon

Industry coverage identifies the five teased shapes as:

  • Grookey,
  • Pichu,
  • Charcadet,
  • Mankey,
  • Wingull.

Until LEGO publishes the full models and official set names, it is safer to treat those identities as the most likely reading of the teaser rather than a complete confirmed 2027 assortment.

What is still unknown?

There are still several major gaps. We do not yet know the set numbers, piece counts, prices, exact launch timing or how each model will use SMART Play.

There is also no reliable basis yet for guessing the size of the models or whether each one will be sold as an All-in-One set with the required interactive hardware or as a Compatible set designed to work with components obtained elsewhere.

SMART Play is already an established LEGO Pokémon format

The 2027 teaser builds on the first LEGO Pokémon SMART Play wave, which launched with 12 sets. The system uses the SMART Brick and SMART Tags to add interactions around training, caring for and battling with Pokémon.

That makes this teaser important beyond the five individual characters. It suggests LEGO plans to keep expanding SMART Play rather than treating the first wave as a one-off experiment.

A wider mix of generations and shapes

The apparent character selection is also notable. Grookey, Pichu, Charcadet, Mankey and Wingull come from different generations and have very different body shapes.

That variety could give LEGO’s designers room to explore different types of physical interaction, but there are no confirmed feature details yet, so any specific gameplay ideas remain speculation.

PokémonXP is becoming part of the rollout

LEGO has been actively promoting SMART Play since the system’s launch, and PokémonXP adds a more enthusiast-focused layer to that campaign. Instead of another conventional advertisement, fans got a panel about the system and an early look at what may be coming next year.

That makes the event a useful bridge between the current 2026 lineup and the next phase of LEGO Pokémon in 2027.

LEGO Pokémon is not limited to SMART Play

It is also worth remembering that LEGO is developing Pokémon in more than one direction. Alongside interactive SMART Play products, the range also includes more traditional display-focused builds that do not depend on the system.

That gives LEGO room to serve two different audiences at once: fans interested in interactive play and collectors who simply want brick-built Pokémon models for display.

What comes next?

The next major step will be a full reveal of the models shown in the teaser. That is when set numbers, prices, piece counts, functions and exact release dates should become clearer.

For now, the key takeaway is simple: LEGO Pokémon SMART Play is continuing into 2027, and PokémonXP has given us the first concrete glimpse of the next wave.
