LEGO Fortnite Odyssey is changing one of its core systems with update 42.00. Epic Games is replacing Guided Build with Quick Build as the default way to assemble preset structures, aiming to make large creations significantly faster to complete without removing manual brick-by-brick construction.
Quick Build is designed to accelerate as you build
The key idea is progression within the build itself. Epic says construction speeds up as players continue placing parts, eventually allowing multiple pieces to be added at once. That directly targets one of the biggest pain points of larger Odyssey projects: the amount of repetitive input required to finish detailed structures.
Epic describes update 42.00 as the first step in a wider overhaul. Additional building skills and tools are planned across the remaining Odyssey updates in 2026, with each new feature intended to build on the previous one.
Manual brick-by-brick building is staying
Quick Build does not replace freeform construction. Players can still build brick by brick whenever they want, and that method continues to consume resources. Epic also says the manual process has been made faster and smoother.
That distinction matters because Quick Build is primarily about reducing friction when assembling larger prepared builds. It is not a move away from hands-on construction for players who prefer placing individual parts themselves.
Mobile building gets attention too
Update 42.00 also includes changes aimed at touch devices. Epic says the touch controls have been fine-tuned and the full blueprint is now visible while building, making it easier to understand the complete structure while working on a smaller screen.
Creator Builds bring community-made structures into Odyssey
The update also puts player creations in a more visible role. Epic is introducing Creator Builds marked with a Creator Crest, identifying them as community-made designs rather than standard in-game builds.
The first is Haskyns’ Skyfang Marauder, available from August 20. Players can claim it after logging in and selecting the relevant in-game prompt. A second community creation, Spixylei’s Crown of the Abyss, is scheduled for August 27.
This is notable beyond the two builds themselves. By giving creator-made structures a distinct badge and placing them directly inside Odyssey, Epic is turning community construction into part of the game’s formal content pipeline rather than leaving it entirely outside the main experience.
Quick Build is only the first part of the 2026 roadmap
Epic has said more building improvements, tools and content are planned throughout the rest of the year. Industry coverage of the roadmap points to additional builds and tools in September, a later Edit Build feature, and a Save Build function targeted for the winter update.
If those features arrive as planned, the bigger story is not simply that Guided Build has a faster replacement. Odyssey appears to be moving toward a more complete construction workflow: assemble structures faster, modify them more flexibly, and eventually save builds for later use.
Update 42.00 is rolling out on August 20
Epic Games began scheduled Fortnite v42.00 maintenance on August 20, 2026 at 06:00 UTC, with the official status page listing a maintenance window through 11:00 UTC and matchmaking disabled 30 minutes before downtime.
Because the update is still rolling out at the time of writing, it is too early to judge how much Quick Build changes the feel of long construction sessions in practice. On paper, however, it addresses a very specific problem: large LEGO-style builds should no longer require the same amount of repetitive placement work before players can see the finished result.
